Who We Are

Mateo Garibaldi President/Founder/Executive Director

Mateo Garibaldi has a Bachelors degree from the University of Washington in Latin American studies and History. He has worked in the non-profit world all his life, and sees this as a natural continuation of his previous work history. Mateo first visited Leon Nicaragua in 2000, while he was a volunteer with Amigos de las Americas (www.amigoslink.org). The very next year he returned on his own to create a library in a small elementary school in the very same community where he volunteered just the year before. Since that year, Mateo has returned, at times, three times a year to visit his host family and continue to support that school. It has always been a dream of his to start his own non-profit, and only now this dream is becoming a reality. Mateo plans to permanently move to Nicaragua where he will be overseeing the various programs ADELANTE plans to implement.
