In Nicaragua there is a team of dedicated Nicaraguans who help make Adelante possible on a day to day basis, and I would like to acknowledge all their hard work.
Karina Hernandez
Karina, 25, has been with Adelante since we first started working here in Leon 3 years ago. She recently graduated from Law school and currently works with Adelante in almost every program we currently run, and some that are still in development. She is a tutor for the after school program, helps with the single mothers College Bound program, teaches the childrens English class, as well as is Mateo's teachers aid for adult classes. Currently Mateo and Karina are applying to Bellevue College in Washington so she can study English for a couple months hopefully at the end of the year.
Katia Ramos
Katia Ramos, 20, has been with Adelante since we first started working here in Leon 3 years ago. She studies Business Administration at the UNAN and is in her third year. Currently she teaches children's English classes at Adelante and teaches English at a local pre-school. After she graduates from the university she plans to own her own business or restaurant and continue teaching children.
Carolina Quiroz
Carolina, 20, is the director of the after school program Carita Feliz. Presently she is going to start the Social Sciences degree at UNAN-LEON. In her free time she likes to go out dancing with her friends, go to the movies, and also spend time with her family. She has been working with Carita Feliz since the program and is starting her second year as the director.
Tatiana Quintero
Tatina Quintero, 20, is in her second year in the UNAN in the English degree program, has been studying with Adelante for 1 year. Since finishing her studies with Adelante, she has been teaching English to elementary school students, tutoring with the after school program Carita Feliz and volunteering as a student teacher for the level one classes at Adelante as well as in Telica. Her future goals include working as a Spanish-English translator for a Nicaraguan or International organization.
Vanessa Rivas Lara
Vanessa, 24, a tutor with the after school program is a recent graduate from UNAN-Leon in Veterenary Medicine. She considers herself a happy, friendly and trustworthy person, and always stays positive and be with her big family. In her spare time she likes to read, draw and play with her pets. Her favorite food is "Salpicon" and french fries, and loves banana milkshakes. She loves to play sports especially volleyball. Her favorite quote is: "La mejor joya que uno puede tener, es ser uno mismo" (The best jewel that one can have, is to be yourself)
Déborah Gabriela Sarria García
Déborah, 22, a tutor with the after school program was an exemplary university student who graduated from the UCA (Central American University) in Industrial Engineering with a focus Business Agronomy. She has recieved various awards for academic excellence from highschool through university and continues to improve herself by taking extra courses in crafts, dance, guitar and many more. She has worked and volunteered with many organizations and companies and while looking for employment is taking English classes and working here with Adelante as a tutor with the after school program.
Luiselin Danielka Vasquez
Luiselin, 27, is a housewife and studies Language and Literature on Saturdays at UNAN-LEON. At present she is in her 5th year of study. She has been with Adelante for the past 2 months as a tutor for pre-schoolers with the after school program. She has one daughter who is 11 years old. Her favorite thing to do in her free time is listen to music.
