Empowering residents of León, Nicaragua with educational opportunities that lead to more successful futures. Welcome to this site, Adelante has been operating in Nicaragua since April 2008. During this time we have successfully launched various projects which work to support the community and also provide opportunities for community members to remain active in their own personal development. By involving the community and molding Adelante's programs to meet their changing needs, with the programs being run by the community members, we are ensuring that Adelante remains sustainable. Ultimately, my goal is to develop the programs so that they can essentially "run themselves", making my involvement unnecessary for their success. English classes are very popular and the demand for them is more than just one person can provide. Our after school program, which boasts an entirely Nicaraguan staff, is run by Nicaraguans for Nicaraguans. The money the program raises is used to purchase school supplies for the kids, as well as provide a small stipend for the university volunteers that donate their time. Our College Bound program, directed at single mothers, has successfully provided 4 partial scholarships to young ladies so that they can complete or begin their college education. Our Vecinos project finished its second trip to Nicaragua in March. Vecinos provided school supplies to over 450 children and completed various construction projects including the installation of a security fence as well as a new roof. Adelante continues to support other initiatives developed by local community members. In using community members we strive to empower the residents of León with educational opportunities that lead to more successful futures.
