Who We Are

Mateo Garibaldi
President/Founder/Executive Director

Mateo Garibaldi has a Bachelors degree from the University of Washington in Latin American studies and History. He has worked in the non-profit world all his life, and sees this as a natural continuation of his previous work history. Mateo first visited Leon Nicaragua in 2000, while he was a volunteer with Amigos de las Americas (www.amigoslink.org). The very next year he returned on his own to create a library in a small elementary school in the very same community where he volunteered just the year before. Since that year, Mateo has returned, at times, three times a year to visit his host family and continue to support that school. It has always been a dream of his to start his own non-profit, and only now this dream has become a reality. Mateo has permanently moved to Nicaragua where he oversees the various programs ADELANTE has working.

Chris Garibaldi

He and his wife, Vera, have owned and operated two successful businesses focusing on their passion for infant aquatics, Waterbabies. Over the last 10 years Waterbabies has grown from 30 students per quarter to over 1200 students per quarter and is one of the largest infant aquatic programs in the United States.

He is inspired by the vision of ADELANTE and the diverse and committed Board of Directors. His main goal is to extend his experience of community by supporting and connecting with those in Nicaragua through English and computer literacy programs. With the shadow of conflict and separation seen in the world today, he believes ADELANTE as a way to support connection, sharing and being a part of an enlightening and uplifting spirit across global borders. His hope is that many of you will too.
